Typing Skills – Completion Grade

Greetings!

I have noticed a disparity in the typing skills of my students.  Some have strong skills while others are still in the “hunt and peck” mode of typing.  As they progress with their computers, using them to take notes and write papers, they will need stronger (and faster) skills.

Therefore, I am asking students, starting the week of 15-19 September, to complete two typing drills a week.  These drills do not take too much time, and I will be doing these drills each week with them.  THEIR WORK WILL BE A COMPLETION GRADE ONLY.  Each week the grade will be one-half of a quiz grade (see change below for the second semester); a student can earn a 100 or a 0 because the work is either complete or it isn’t.  I will not give partial credit on these assignments.

This is the new information for second semester.  There will be one typing drill a week this semester – each assignment will count as 1/4 of a quiz grade this semester. A student can earn a 100 or a 0 because the work is either complete or it isn’t.  I will not give partial credit on these assignments.  Each assignment is due on the Friday of the week it is assigned.

5-9 Jan – Advanced Course: Keyboard Quadrants

12-16 Jan – Advanced Course: Skill Builder Drills

19-23 Jan – Advanced Course: Symbols and Advanced Punctuation

26-30 Jan – Advanced Course: Accuracy Drills

2-6 Feb – Advanced Course: Advanced Wrap-Up (*Note: we are skipping The Numeric Keypad as we do not have them on our Macs.*)

9-13 Feb – Specialty Lessons: The Child’s Story (not due until next week)

16-20 Feb – Specialty Lessons: The Child’s Story is due

23-27 Feb – Specialty Lessons: Babes in the Jungle (not due until next week)

2-6 March – Specialty Lessons: Babes in the Jungle is due

Done! Since we are working on research papers this semester, you will be doing more typing as you write – perfect time to put this into practice!
